Making figure skating more accessible.

One skater at a time.

From One Skater to the Next.

At Edge Up Skating Foundation, we believe every young person should have the opportunity to experience the confidence, community, and joy that figure skating can bring.

Through our partnership with Skate VIDA, we currently provide free skating opportunities for eligible young skaters in the Austin community—including instruction, ice time, and rental skates.

Skate With Us!

What We Offer

Free Ice Time

Through our partnership with Skate VIDA, eligible skaters also receive free ice time before and/or after their lesson. This gives skaters the opportunity to practice what they've learned, build confidence, and spend more time on the ice.

Free Skating Instruction

Eligible skaters receive free skating lessons taught by Edge Up teen coaches. Our coaches are competitive figure skaters who want to share their knowledge, enthusiasm, and love of skating with the next generation.

Lessons are designed to meet skaters where they are, whether they're stepping onto the ice for the first time or beginning to develop their skating skills.

Rental Skates

Don't have your own skates yet? No problem. Rental skates are available at no cost to eligible skaters through our partnership with Skate VIDA.

Our goal is simple: financial barriers shouldn't keep a young person from getting on the ice.

Who Can Apply?

Our current program is designed to support young skaters ages 4–17 whose families may face financial barriers to participating in figure skating.

Eligibility currently includes youth who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Receive state or federal need-based assistance, such as SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, or similar programs

  • Are currently in foster care

  • Meet other financial-need criteria established by Edge Up Skating Foundation

We understand that every family's circumstances are different. If you're unsure whether your skater qualifies, we encourage you to reach out and ask.

A note about privacy

We only request the information necessary to determine eligibility and connect skaters with available opportunities. Information provided through the application process will be treated with care and respect.

More Than Just A Lesson

✳︎

More Than Just A Lesson ✳︎

For us, access to skating means more than simply getting on the ice.

Figure skating can teach discipline, perseverance, confidence, creativity, and resilience. It can introduce young people to coaches and mentors, create lasting friendships, and give them a place where they can challenge themselves and discover what they're capable of.

That's why we're working to create opportunities that go beyond a single free lesson.

Growing the Program

Our current program is just the beginning.

As Edge Up Skating Foundation grows, we hope to expand the support we can provide to eligible skaters, including:

  • SPECIALTY COACHING
Funding toward private lessons with experienced professional coaches.

  • PROGRAM PREPARATION
Support for skaters preparing for tests, competitions, exhibitions, and other skating opportunities

  • EQUIPMENT ASSISTANCE
Help with the cost of skates, skating apparel, and other essential equipment.

  • EXPANDED ICE OPPORTUNITIES
Additional opportunities for practice, clinics, camps, and specialized training.

  • MENTORSHIP & COMMUNITY
Connecting young skaters with coaches and older athletes who can encourage and support them along their skating journey.

Our vision is to help remove the financial barriers that can prevent talented and passionate young skaters from continuing in the sport.
