Become an Edge Up Coach

Share Your Skating. Grow Your Leadership. Give Back.

Do you love skating and want to help someone else discover the same joy?

Edge Up Skating Foundation is building a team of teen and tween figure skaters who want to give back by providing free skating instruction to young skaters in our community.

As an Edge Up Coach, you'll have the opportunity to share the skills you've worked hard to develop while gaining valuable experience as a teacher, mentor, and leader.

Who Can Become an Edge Up Coach?

Our teen and tween coaching program is designed for young figure skaters who are ready to share their love of the sport with others.

We're looking for skaters who are:

  • Passionate about figure skating

  • Patient, encouraging, and dependable

  • Comfortable working with younger children

  • Interested in teaching and mentoring

  • Willing to learn and accept feedback

  • Committed to creating a welcoming and positive experience for every skater

Competitive experience is helpful, but being a great coach is about more than your skating level. We are looking for young athletes who demonstrate responsibility, kindness, communication, and a genuine desire to help others.

Tweens and teens are encouraged to apply.

Make a Difference on the Ice

For many young skaters, getting started in figure skating can feel out of reach. The cost of lessons, ice time, and equipment can create barriers before a skater ever has the chance to discover what they're capable of.

Edge Up Coaches help change that.

Our coaches volunteer their time and expertise to provide free skating lessons to eligible youth. Whether you're teaching a first-time skater how to feel comfortable on the ice or helping a developing skater build their next skill, your time and encouragement can make a meaningful difference.

You don't have to be a professional coach to make an impact. You just need a passion for skating, a willingness to learn, and a desire to help someone else move forward.

Your Coaching Journey

Learn. Practice. Lead.

Edge Up believes that great coaches are developed over time. That's why our program is designed to give young coaches the training, mentorship, and hands-on experience they need to grow.

The goal isn't simply to create volunteers.

It's to help develop the next generation of skating leaders.

What Does an Edge Up Coach Do?

Edge Up Coaches help create a positive first experience—and a lasting connection—with figure skating.

Depending on your experience and training, responsibilities may include:

  • TEACH
    Provide structured, age-appropriate skating lessons.

  • ENCOURAGE
Help skaters build confidence and celebrate progress, especially when skills feel challenging.

  • MENTOR
Be a positive role model for younger skaters and demonstrate good sportsmanship, perseverance, and respect.

  • ADAPT
Meet skaters where they are and adjust your teaching approach to their individual needs and experience.

  • COMMUNICATE
Work respectfully with skaters, families, Edge Up staff, and fellow coaches.

  • LEAD BY EXAMPLE
Represent Edge Up and our mission with professionalism, kindness, and enthusiasm.

What You'll Gain

Giving back doesn't mean you're the only one who benefits.

Coaching can help young skaters develop skills that extend far beyond the rink.

  • LEADERSHIP
Learn how to take responsibility, make decisions, and guide others.

  • COMMUNICATION
Practice explaining ideas clearly and adapting your communication to different ages and learning styles.

  • CONFIDENCE
Build confidence by stepping into a leadership role and seeing the impact you can have on someone else.

  • TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Gain hands-on experience planning and delivering skating instruction.

  • MENTORSHIP
Learn from experienced coaches while becoming a mentor to younger skaters.

  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Build experience and certifications that can support future opportunities in coaching, skating, education, or other fields.

  • COMMUNITY
Become part of a group of young athletes who believe in giving back and helping others find their edge.

More Than Coaching

At Edge Up, we believe one of the most powerful things a skater can do is reach back and help the next skater move forward.

You know what it's like to learn a new skill, fall down, get frustrated, try again, and finally land it.

You know the feeling of stepping onto the ice not knowing what you're capable of—and discovering that you can do more than you thought.

Now you have the opportunity to help someone else experience that feeling.

Your skating journey can become part of someone else's beginning.

Ready to Give Back?

If you're a tween or teen figure skater who wants to share your skills, develop as a leader, and help make skating more accessible, we'd love to hear from you.

No coaching experience? That's okay. We're interested in skaters who are willing to learn, committed to helping others, and excited to grow.
